Çavuşin travel guide

Rock-cut heritage and a useful stop between Göreme and Avanos.

Çavuşin combines a village visit with rock-cut heritage. GoTürkiye describes its stone-carved houses and its position between Göreme and Avanos. It can be the main focus of a short outing or part of a day continuing towards Paşabağ and Zelve.

Explore the village first

Start in the centre and choose where you want to explore from there. Look at the carved settlement landscape and the village’s relationship with the surrounding rock formations. Check which paths and heritage areas are currently open; a visible carved room is not automatically a visitor entrance.

Continue to Paşabağ or Zelve

Paşabağ focuses on distinctive fairy chimneys, while Zelve offers a wider former settlement across three valleys. Choose one or leave time for both. Each is a separate visit with its own access arrangements.

A village-and-museum day

Visit Çavuşin, pause for a meal and continue to a confirmed next stop if the timetable allows. If you are planning a valley walk instead, confirm the route and the finishing point locally so you can arrange how to leave at the end.

Getting there and moving on

The local dolmuş stop is in the village centre. For travel towards Avanos, use the service arriving from Ürgüp via Göreme Open-Air Museum and Göreme. It continues after Çavuşin through Paşabağ and Zelve Open-Air Museum to Avanos.

The line departs hourly, on the hour, from its starting point; this does not mean it passes Çavuşin on the hour. Check passing times and the return-direction arrangements locally. From Göreme Open-Air Museum, the Ürgüp-origin, Avanos-bound service is the one to choose for Çavuşin; a taxi is another option.
