Uçhisar is a place to plan around the rock castle and its surrounding town. Give the visit its own space in your itinerary: seeing the landmark from outside, walking around town and entering the castle are different parts of the experience.
Begin with Uçhisar Castle
The rock-cut Uçhisar Castle is known for its wide views across the surrounding landscape. Ask about current access before deciding to climb. Allow for steps and choose what suits everyone in your group.
Add a Pigeon Valley viewpoint
A stop overlooking Güvercinlik (Pigeon) Valley can complement a town visit. A viewpoint stop and a walk through the valley are different plans. For a walk, confirm the actual trail, conditions, start and finish locally; do not use a driving route as a trail guide.
How to shape your visit
Choose the castle as the main stop, leave time for the surrounding streets and plan a meal before heading onward. If you hope to stay for evening light, decide your return transport before settling into the visit. The last departure from Göreme is not a confirmed return departure from Uçhisar.
Getting there and moving on
From Göreme to Uçhisar, dolmuş departures are every 30 minutes from 07:30 to 18:00, for example 13:00, 13:30 and 14:00.
From Uçhisar back to Göreme, use a service arriving from Nevşehir and continuing towards Göreme or Avanos. Confirm the Göreme stop and the current passing time with the driver or at the stop. These return passing times are not supplied by the Göreme departure timetable.
