Paşabağ: Monks Valley
Fairy chimneys with distinctive multiple caps.
Paşabağ is known for its striking fairy chimneys, including formations with multiple stems and caps. Some rock formations contain carved religious and living spaces.
Pair it with Zelve
Paşabağ and Zelve are separate visiting locations in the same wider area. Plan each entrance as its own stop. Their closeness makes them a useful combination to discuss with a driver or tour operator, with time at both locations.
Distance and nearby stops
The Ministry describes Paşabağ as about 1 km off the Göreme–Avanos road. This is the access-road offset, not the total journey from Göreme. Zelve is listed as about 1 km away in the official museum description; it is not a verified driving distance between entrances.
Getting there
A taxi, rental car or a tour including this site is an alternative to the local minibus connections below.
Driving directions from Göreme ↗ · View the location ↗
By local minibus (dolmuş)
For Paşabağ, use the dolmuş coming from Ürgüp towards Avanos. The line serves Göreme Open-Air Museum, Göreme and Çavuşin before Paşabağ, then continues to Zelve Open-Air Museum and Avanos. Confirm the stop with your driver. A taxi is another option.
The Ürgüp-to-Avanos service departs once an hour, on the hour, from its starting point. These are departure times, not exact passing times at every intermediate stop. Check your stop’s expected passing time locally; the first and last departures for this line are not listed here.
