Zelve Open-Air Museum
A former settlement across three valleys.
Zelve is an extensive rock-cut settlement spread across three valleys. The remains include domestic and religious spaces, offering a sense of how a whole community used the landscape.
How it differs from Göreme
Choose Zelve for the wider settlement landscape; choose Göreme Open-Air Museum when the churches and painted interiors are your main interest. They are distinct sites, so make room for both if each appeals to you.
Stay on permitted paths and follow any closures. Do not assume a visible rock room or tunnel is open to visitors.
Distance and nearby stops
Official museum description: Zelve is approximately 5 km from Avanos and 1 km from Paşabağ. These are approximate locality distances, not measured routes between visitor entrances.
