Valley walks in Cappadocia

Seven walking ideas, from the central valleys to a separate day in Ihlara.

Choose the experience first

These valley suggestions help you choose where to walk. They are not turn-by-turn trail instructions. Distances, duration and effort depend on the exact start and finish, route, weather and your pace.

A viewpoint is not the same as a valley walk

For Pigeon, Love and Red valleys, first decide whether you want a scenic stop or a walking outing. Ask for the correct destination when arranging a vehicle. A map pin for a viewpoint may be unsuitable as the start of a walking route.

How much time should you allow?

Choose a specific trail before deciding on distance or duration. A short out-and-back walk, a one-way route and a combined-valley outing can have very different requirements. Confirm current access and the finishing location, then plan the rest of your day around that route.

Walking and local transport

The Göreme–Uçhisar service can help with travel between those towns; the Ürgüp-origin Avanos-bound line connects Göreme Open-Air Museum, Göreme, Çavuşin, Paşabağ and Zelve. A town or attraction stop does not guarantee access to a valley trailhead. See the local transport guide and check the connection to your chosen path.
