Ihlara Valley walking guide
A separate canyon outing that needs its own transport plan.
Ihlara VadisiWhy choose this valley?
Ihlara offers a different setting from the central Cappadocia valleys: a canyon shaped by the Melendiz River, with rock-cut churches. Choose a particular walking section rather than assuming a visit means walking the whole valley.
Plan your walk
The Ministry’s trekking page describes an approximately 3 km section from Ihlara village to the point reached by the main entrance stairs. That is one described section, not the length of the entire canyon or a guaranteed currently open circuit. Confirm entrances, exits and access on the day.
Getting to and from your walk
There is no direct dolmuş from Göreme to Ihlara Valley, according to Gökhan’s local information. Use a prearranged vehicle, drive, or choose a daily tour whose confirmed itinerary includes Ihlara. Arrange collection at the actual exit if your walk finishes elsewhere.
The map link below locates the valley area. It is not a verified walking track or a trailhead pin. Confirm the path, access and your finishing point before leaving.
Locate the valley area ↗Practical preparation
Wear shoes with grip and carry water and sun protection. Check conditions, daylight and any route closures locally. Ask about steps, uneven ground and exposed sections when choosing a walk for your group. For unfamiliar paths, consider a local walking guide.
