Kaymaklı Underground City
Explore the practical spaces of an underground settlement.
Kaymaklı contains interconnected spaces carved into the rock, including storage and domestic areas, ventilation features and stone closures. It offers a close look at how an underground settlement was organised.
Before going underground
Some passages are narrow and require bending. Ask the site team about the current visitor route and exit arrangements. Describe any difficulty with confined spaces or steps before entering, and do not assume every part of the settlement is accessible.
Kaymaklı or Derinkuyu?
They are separate sites. Compare their visitor routes and the amount of underground exploration you want rather than treating them as one attraction. A longer day may include both, but transport and available visiting time should be agreed first.
Distance and nearby stops
Nevşehir → Kaymaklı: approximately 20 km in the Ministry’s description. No Göreme–Kaymaklı road distance is inferred from that figure.
Getting there
A taxi, rental car or a tour including this site is an alternative to the local minibus connections below.

By local minibus (dolmuş)
Start at Göreme terminal and take a dolmuş to Nevşehir centre. In Nevşehir, change to a dolmuş serving your chosen destination: Kaymaklı or Derinkuyu. Confirm the correct connection and return arrangements locally. This is a journey with a change, not a direct dolmuş from Göreme.
