Göreme Open-Air Museum

Rock-cut churches and a compact heritage visit.

This rock-cut settlement brings together churches, chapels and communal spaces within a valley. Its painted interiors make it a different experience from simply seeing the rock formations from a roadside viewpoint.

What to focus on

Give yourself time to look at the surviving wall paintings as well as the carved spaces. Follow the site’s signs and instructions inside the churches. Check current admission arrangements directly before travelling.

Distance and nearby stops

Göreme town → museum: approximately 2 km east of town. This is the locality distance stated by the Ministry, not a measurement from your hotel.
