Derinkuyu Underground City
An interconnected underground settlement.
Derinkuyu’s interconnected rooms, narrow passages and large stone closures show how space beneath the ground was adapted for communal use. The experience is quite different from visiting an open-air valley site.
Plan for the visitor route
Ask about the sections currently open and the route you will follow. Narrow tunnels and changes in level may affect suitability for your group. Follow the staff’s instructions and keep the passage clear for other visitors.
Build a realistic day
Choose whether this is your main underground visit or part of a longer itinerary. If you also plan Kaymaklı, agree the actual entrance-to-entrance route rather than relying on a difference between two town-distance figures.
Distance and nearby stops
Nevşehir → Derinkuyu: approximately 30 km, according to Derinkuyu Municipality. This is a locality distance, not a route measurement from Göreme or Kaymaklı.

By local minibus (dolmuş)
Start at Göreme terminal and take a dolmuş to Nevşehir centre. In Nevşehir, change to a dolmuş serving your chosen destination: Kaymaklı or Derinkuyu. Confirm the correct connection and return arrangements locally. This is a journey with a change, not a direct dolmuş from Göreme.
