Cappadocia balloon flight areas

Göreme is the best-known choice, but balloon flights also operate in Ihlara, Soğanlı and Çat. They are different flight areas with different landscapes and transfer times. Ask your operator which area your ticket covers before you book.

Göreme and central Cappadocia

The best-known and most popular area for flights over Cappadocia’s fairy-chimney landscape. The exact take-off point and flight path can change with wind, operating conditions and the operator’s plans.

Ihlara Valley

A separate flight area near Ihlara, roughly 100 km from Göreme by road. Allow for a longer hotel transfer and confirm the flight area and pickup time with the operator.

Soğanlı Valley

A separate valley flight area roughly 60 km from Göreme. Its landscape and transfer arrangements differ from the central Göreme area; verify the itinerary and pickup with your operator.

Çat Valley

A separate flight area roughly 30 km from Göreme. Confirm whether hotel pickup is offered and how long the journey will take.

Distances are approximate and depend on the starting hotel and road route. Balloon numbers and available slots can change; ask the operator for current capacity rather than relying on a fixed maximum.

Flight permission and cancellation

Each flight area has its own meteorological suitability assessment under civil aviation oversight. The Slot Service Centre publishes the assessment; operators and pilots must also assess conditions. A cancellation may be announced the previous day or on the morning itself, even after hotel pickup.
